Ransom Canyon returned for its second season and drew 4.1 million views in its first week on Netflix — a 43% drop from the 7.2 million views the first season posted in its own opening week, according to Deadline.

The romantic drama, based on Jodi Thomas's 2015 novel and set in Texas, stars Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel. Season 2 arrived with a shorter episode count — eight, down from Season 1's ten — along with a storyline and supporting-cast shakeup. New arrivals include Patricia Clarkson, Ben Robson, and Heidi Engerman, per Netflix's Tudum cast guide. The new season also features a music-festival concert with country artists Thomas Rhett and Jordan Davis, which Duhamel helped assemble, according to Deadline.

A 43% sophomore drop is steep, but it is not unusual on Netflix. Running Point had the same Season 2 opening-week decline, and The Four Seasons fell further, dropping 63%, as Deadline reported. Both of those shows were renewed for a third season regardless.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has said that the Season 2 viewership fall-off across the platform is slightly improved this year compared with last year, according to Deadline. That tracks with the streaming model: shows tend to get sampled heavily when they launch, and a portion of that initial audience does not return. Whether a show survives a second-season dip depends on how the full performance picture looks to the people who hold the renewal ledger.

For Ransom Canyon, that picture is still developing. Season 1 actually grew in its second week, climbing from 7.2 million to 9.4 million views, as Deadline reported in April 2025. Whether Season 2 follows a similar upward path in week two remains to be seen.

In the weekly Netflix Top 10 for the week of 20 July 2026, Ransom Canyon Season 2 accumulated 25.5 million hours viewed, per The Futon Critic. It was not the top English-language series on the chart that week. I Will Find You, another Netflix title, drew 6.2 million views in the same period, as The Wrap reported.

Amy Jones, Associate Publisher/VP, commented on Ransom Canyon Season 2 in a Netflix newsroom post about book-to-screen adaptations published in December 2025, noting the series' place in the platform's broader adaptation strategy.
