The Grim Reaper and the Devil are crashing a wedding, and the guest list just got a lot bigger.

Seven new cast members have joined "Thud," a darkly comedic supernatural romance starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as the Grim Reaper and Rudy Pankow as the Devil, according to Deadline. The film, which has already wrapped principal photography in Los Angeles, follows the two otherworldly figures as they wreak havoc at a three-day destination wedding — and fall in love.

The latest round of casting, reported by Deadline on 29 July 2026, adds Piper Curda ("Hoppers"), Sujata Day ("Insecure"), Sterling Sulieman ("Scrambled"), Steve Agee ("Peacemaker"), Karan Soni (the "Deadpool" film franchise), Dot-Marie Jones ("Glee"), and Katie Parker ("The Fall of the House of Usher"). Who each of them plays remains a mystery: character details are being kept under wraps.

Deadline first broke the news of Gellar and Pankow's casting in June 2026, when the project surfaced as an original screenplay written by Noga Pnueli, with Mali Elfman directing. Derek Bishé and David Grove Churchill Viste are producing.

The executive-producer roster runs long and carries some notable genre pedigree. Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin — the directing duo behind the recent "Scream" revival and known collectively as part of Radio Silence — are among the executive producers, alongside Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks of Divide/Conquer, Lindsay Helms and Joel Nevells of Helmstreet Productions, Dan Lawler, and Pnueli herself.

For Gellar, the role marks a return to supernatural territory for an actress still best known to many as the title character of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Pankow, a younger face, built his following on the Netflix adventure series "Outer Banks."

The assembled supporting cast spans comedy, drama, and horror. Soni has been a reliable comic presence across the "Deadpool" films. Agee brought deadpan energy to "Peacemaker" and "The Suicide Squad." Jones is a three-time Emmy nominee for her work on "Glee." Parker appeared in Mike Flanagan's "The Fall of the House of Usher" and previously in "The Haunting of Hill House."

What makes "Thud" stand out on paper is the collision of tones it is promising: a romance between Death and the Devil, played for laughs, set at a destination wedding that presumably does not go as planned for anyone attending. How Elfman and Pnueli balance those elements remains to be seen — but the cast they have assembled gives them a deep bench to work with.
