The supernatural romance Thud has filled out its cast with six final additions, rounding out an ensemble that already includes Sarah Michelle Gellar as the Grim Reaper and Rudy Pankow as the Devil. Deadline reported the news exclusively on 5 August 2026.

Lauren Holt, Anna Akana, Kevin Bigley, Brian McElhaney, Brandon Scott and Vincent Rodriguez III are the latest names aboard. Holt is a former Saturday Night Live cast member. Akana appeared in the indie film Go Back to China. Bigley is known from the Amazon series Upload. McElhaney had a turn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Scott was in the series Off Campus, and Rodriguez III is familiar to audiences from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Character details for all six remain under wraps.

The premise alone is enough to raise eyebrows. The Grim Reaper and the Devil wreak havoc at a three-day destination wedding as they fall in love — a darkly comedic supernatural romance, as Deadline describes it. Gellar, long synonymous with the supernatural genre since her Buffy the Vampire Slayer years, plays Death. Pankow, who broke out in Outer Banks, plays the Prince of Darkness.

Behind the camera, Mali Elfman directs from an original screenplay by Noga Pnueli. Derek Bishé and David Grove Churchill Viste produce. The executive-producer roster reads like a who's-who of the horror-adjacent producing world: Radio Silence's Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (the team behind the recent Scream revivals), Divide/Conquer's Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks, Helmstreet Productions' Lindsay Helms and Joel Nevells, along with Dan Lawler and Pnueli herself.

The wider cast, previously announced, also includes Piper Curda, Sujata Day, Sterling Sulieman, Steve Agee, Karan Soni, Dot-Marie Jones and Katie Parker — a mix of comedic performers and genre regulars that suggests the film is leaning hard into its darkly funny tone. Yahoo Entertainment reported the first wave of seven additions on 29 July 2026, and this latest group closes out casting.

Production has already wrapped. Principal photography took place in Los Angeles, supported by a California tax credit — the state programme that rebates a portion of qualified production spend to films that shoot in-state. Gellar confirmed the wrap on Instagram on 6 July 2026, posting that the film is expected to be released sometime in 2027.

Gellar and Pankow's involvement was first reported by Deadline in June 2026. With filming complete and the full cast now public, Thud heads into post-production with no distributor or release date yet announced.

For a project that pairs one of the most recognisable supernatural stars of the past three decades with a rising leading man, the supporting cast skews heavily toward comedy — a signal that Elfman and Pnueli are betting on tone as much as concept. The destination-wedding setting gives the romance a contained stage, and the talent behind the camera, particularly the Radio Silence contingent, brings real genre credentials.
