Lynette Howell Taylor will lead the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for a second consecutive year, reelected president on 29 July 2026 by the organisation's Board of Governors. The vote locks in the leadership team steering the Academy through its 99th Oscars cycle and, beyond that, the approach of its centenary.

Howell Taylor, a producer with more than 25 film credits and a member of the Academy's Producers Branch since 2014, first took the presidency in July 2025 U.S. News & World Report. Academy rules allow a sitting president to run for up to four straight one-year terms, so she remains eligible for the role through 2028.

The Board, whose 2026–2027 membership was elected on 15 June 2026, filled out the officer slate with a mix of returning names and one newcomer. Howard A. Rodman (Writers Branch) returns as vice president and secretary, also chairing the Governance Committee. Jennifer Fox (Producers Branch) is back as chair of the Awards Committee. Lesley Barber (Music Branch) returns as chair of the Membership Committee. Lou Diamond Phillips (Actors Branch) returns as chair of the Equity and Inclusion Committee.

The single new face among the officers is David Dinerstein (Marketing and Public Relations Branch), elected vice president and treasurer with a seat as chair of the Finance Committee — his first officer position Variety.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer issued a statement thanking the newly elected officers and pointing ahead to the Academy's upcoming 100th anniversary. Kramer and Howell Taylor have already moved to lock in the Academy's physical footprint for that milestone: in March 2026 they announced a 10-year deal with AEG Kuwait Times.

The calendar these officers will oversee is already set. The Governors Awards — the Academy's annual honorary ceremony — are scheduled for 15 November 2026, with honorary Oscars going to Glenn Close and Ridley Scott. The 99th Oscars ceremony follows on Sunday, 14 March 2027, hosted by Conan O'Brien and broadcast live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

For an organisation that presents itself to the world on one night a year, the work happens in boardrooms like this one. The officers elected this week will shape membership rules, awards procedures, governance reform, financial oversight, and equity initiatives across a season that culminates on that March stage — and that will carry the Academy toward its hundredth year.
