Kylie Minogue walked onto the stage at Preston Park in Brighton on 31 July 2026 to sing 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds — the first time the two had performed the duet live since 2019 (Rolling Stone).

The song landed midway through the band's 19-song set, slotted in as the tenth number (Far Out Magazine). It was a sold-out homecoming show — the band's only UK headline performance of 2026 (The Argus). Cave's official Instagram account posted a video reel the following day welcoming Minogue to the stage for the performance (Instagram).

The duet has a long, scattered performance history. Cave and Minogue first sang it together on a few occasions in the mid-1990s, shortly after it appeared on the Bad Seeds' 1996 album Murder Ballads. They revisited it in 2013 and again in 2018. The 2018 appearance was the last time the Bad Seeds themselves played the song live before Brighton (Rolling Stone).

The most recent duet before this week came in 2019, when Cave appeared as a guest during Minogue's Glastonbury set. That performance and the Brighton show are separated by seven years.

Brighton had already had an unusual day before Minogue appeared. Earlier on 31 July, Cave and the Bad Seeds played a surprise four-song rooftop set atop Resident Music, a Brighton record shop (Rolling Stone). The rooftop set included 'Train Long-Suffering', a track from the 1985 album The Firstborn Is Dead that had not been played live in 27 years before the band's 2026 European tour. It also featured a cover of T. Rex's 'Cosmic Dancer', which Cave had previously only performed solo.

The Wild God 2026 Tour continues across Europe through August, finishing at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris on 28 August (Rolling Stone). Minogue has no further 2026 shows planned. She recently said she intends to tour extensively in 2027 to mark her 40th anniversary in music.

For fans of either artist, the surprise was not just the duet itself but its rarity. 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' — a murder ballad sung from two perspectives — has never been a regular fixture in either artist's setlist. Each live appearance has been an event of its own, separated by years rather than tour legs.
