The Prince and Princess of Wales took all three of their children to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on 1 August 2026, marking the first official public appearance in Scotland for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The family began their day at the Hydro arena watching netball, before heading across Glasgow to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for track cycling. The visit fell on the penultimate day of the Games (ITV News, via Facebook).

George, 13, Charlotte, 11, and Louis, 8, were joined by their parents for both events. Kate wore a pleated white skirt, striped top and blazer, while George and Louis matched their father in shirt and trousers. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh — Edward and Sophie — were also at the velodrome, where they chatted with William and Kate while the racing unfolded on the track below (Royal Central).

The Glasgow outing came two weeks after George and Charlotte accompanied their parents to the Wimbledon Men's Singles Final on the other side of the country, where Kate presented the trophy. Together, the two appearances amount to the busiest stretch of public engagements the Wales children have shared this summer.

The Commonwealth Games opening ceremony had its own royal moment earlier in the fortnight, when King Charles and Queen Camilla joined Sir Chris Hoy — the six-time Olympic track cycling champion after whom the Glasgow velodrome is named — for a spoof film that showed the three travelling from Balmoral to Glasgow in the Tardis, the time machine from the BBC's Doctor Who. Sir Chris accompanied the King and Queen at the opening ceremony itself.

For a family that has kept its youngest members largely out of the formal schedule, Glasgow was a noticeable step. All three children appeared relaxed courtside and trackside, falling into the rhythm of a multi-sport event that moves from one venue to the next in the space of an afternoon. The netball-to-cycling itinerary is the kind of double-header any visiting family might attempt — though few have the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh waving them over to their seats at the second stop.
