Marvel's Wonder Man will not return for a second season on Disney+, reversing a renewal the streamer handed the series just months ago.

Variety broke the news on 31 July 2026, and Deadline confirmed the cancellation the same day. Disney+ had picked up the series for a second season in March, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That renewal is now gone.

The cancellation lands in a peculiar spot for the show. Wonder Man debuted on Disney+ in late January and pulled 618 million minutes of viewing time in its premiere week, measured by Nielsen's streaming ratings. Its lead, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, earned an Emmy nomination for best actor in a comedy series — a category where he sits alongside Steve Carell, Matthew Rhys, Jason Segel and Martin Short.

Abdul-Mateen II, who plays Simon Williams — a reluctantly super-powered actor — addressed the news on Instagram. "Wonder Man won't be coming back," he wrote, before thanking fans for their support. He signed off with a pointed line: "See you at the Emmys." In remarks reported by Variety, he added, "That's life, right?" and told Deadline the "word just dropped" that the show would not continue.

For a series to collect a respectable premiere-week audience and an Emmy nomination and still lose its second season is unusual. Renewals are typically reversed when a platform's strategy shifts or costs climb, though Disney+ has not publicly stated its reasoning.

Behind the camera, co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest had been set to return. Guest served as showrunner; Cretton directed several episodes. The executive producer roster included Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Jonathan Schwartz, and Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation.

The cast featured Ben Kingsley, X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed, Olivia Thirlby, Dan Donohue and Kameron J. Meadows alongside Abdul-Mateen II.

For fans and crew, the reversal means a story that had a place on the schedule no longer does. The writers' room, the production staff and the cast that would have returned for Season 2 now face the gap a cancelled renewal leaves behind. Abdul-Mateen II's Emmy nomination, though, keeps the show in the conversation through awards season — even without new episodes to follow.
