The planned UK tour of Trainspotting The Musical has been cancelled after venues removed the show from their schedules and ticket holders were contacted by their point of purchase (WhatsOnStage).

The production, presented by Phil McIntyre Live, had been due to follow its West End run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket with a national tour. Tour stop pages were taken down from venue websites and all tour details removed from the show's official site. Multiple cast members confirmed on social media that they are no longer contracted for the tour window.

Performer and resident director Keiran Brown stated that the tour was cancelled due to poor sales, citing Edinburgh at 19 per cent of capacity sold (WhatsOnStage). No figure has been given for other dates on the route.

The West End run is unaffected and continues until 5 September 2026 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. The production opened on 15 July, having announced a cast change earlier that month after a performer withdrew with an injury sustained during rehearsals.

Trainspotting The Musical is the world premiere stage adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel, written by Welsh himself, with music and lyrics by Welsh and Stephen McGuinness. Caroline Jay Ranger directs and developed the piece. The story follows characters Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy and Kelly, set three decades on from the events of the 1996 film adaptation. That film, starring Ewan McGregor, was the highest-grossing UK release of its year.

Welsh had said as far back as July 2024 that the script and songs were complete and the production was simply waiting for the right theatre (The Scotsman). The Haymarket booking now gives the show a seven-week West End window.

For audiences who had booked tour dates, the point of purchase — whether the venue box office or a ticketing platform — is handling refunds and exchanges. The production has not indicated whether the tour might be revisited at a later date.
