Fulham have signed Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid on five-year deals, completing a combined €50m (£42.9m) transfer that brings two of Spain's brightest young talents to Craven Cottage.

Garcia, 22, arrives for a reported fee of around £34m as the headline act. He made 39 appearances for Real Madrid last season, scoring eight goals across all competitions, and won his first senior cap for Spain in June. He was also joint-top scorer at last summer's Club World Cup — the global tournament featuring the champions of each continent, where Real's squad depth gets tested against sides from beyond Europe.

What makes the move click is the reunion at the heart of it. Garcia will work again with Alvaro Arbeloa, Fulham's new manager, who knows the young forward from their shared time at the Bernabeu — Real Madrid's home ground and one of the most demanding environments in world football. Both players are tied to Fulham until the summer of 2031, with the club holding an option to extend each contract by a further 12 months. That long-term security matters: it gives Arbeloa time to build around two players who are still early in their careers, and it protects Fulham's investment should either attract bigger suitors down the line.
