Final Fantasy XIV, the long-running online role-playing game from Square Enix, launches on Nintendo Switch 2 today, 4 August 2026, at 3:00 a.m. PDT (Lodestone). The release brings the MMORPG — a genre built around persistent online worlds shared with thousands of other players — to a Nintendo platform for the first time.

To mark the occasion, the Complete Edition is 30% off for a limited time on the Nintendo eShop. That discount runs until 11:59 p.m. PDT on 12 August 2026, according to the official Lodestone announcement. The Complete Edition bundles the base game with every expansion released so far, up to and including Dawntrail, the most recent major content update.

For players not ready to commit, a free trial is also available on Switch 2. It is a substantial download — roughly 117 GB — and grants access to the base game, A Realm Reborn, plus three full expansions: Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers (VGC). That is hundreds of hours of story and exploration before any payment is required.

Those who do buy the Starter or Complete Edition get 30 days of free play included. After that window, a monthly subscription is needed to keep playing, as is standard for the game across all its platforms — PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and now Switch 2.

The path to this launch has been a few months in the making. Square Enix first confirmed an August 2026 release window back in April. Pre-orders opened on the Nintendo eShop at the time of the launch announcement in late July (Lodestone).

Beyond the Switch 2 debut, the broader Final Fantasy XIV ecosystem has been busy. Square Enix ran a limited-time sale on the game's online item store from 17 July through 11 August 2026. That sale coincided with the release of new Fan Festival 2026 commemorative items, which went live on 17 July at 3:00 a.m. PDT.

The Fan Festival round-two items include the Graffiti Neotunic three-piece gear set, the Wind-up Yuffie minion (a small companion pet that follows your character), two orchestrion roll sets — the Eorzean Symphony Set II and the Pulse 2 Set II, which let players change the background music in their in-game housing — and a set of new cheer emotes: Cheer On: Orange, Cheer Wave: Pink, and Cheer Jump: Indigo, sold individually and as a Fan-ciful Cheer Set.

For Switch 2 owners who have been waiting for a headline MMORPG on the console, today's launch opens that door. The 30% discount window gives early adopters a week and change to grab the full experience at a reduced price.
