Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has agreed to join Strasbourg on a season-long loan, giving the 24-year-old Danish international the regular football he could not find at Stamford Bridge (BBC Sport).

Jorgensen arrived at Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer of 2025 and was officially unveiled as a Chelsea player that June (Chelsea FC). He represents Denmark at international level (Chelsea FC). But breaking into the starting XI proved difficult. Robert Sanchez held the first-choice spot, and Jorgensen could not dislodge him.

He was not idle. During the 2025/26 season Jorgensen became a regular in Chelsea's domestic cup competitions, helping the club reach the Carabao Cup semi-final and the FA Cup final (Chelsea FC). Cup duty kept him sharp. League minutes were harder to come by, and a goalkeeper at his age needs a full season of games.

Jorgensen had been training with Chelsea during their pre-season tour but returned to London the week before the report to resolve his future (BBC Sport). The answer came from France.

Strasbourg's new manager Hugo Oliveira wanted a ball-playing goalkeeper — a keeper comfortable starting attacks with his feet — after Mike Penders returned to Chelsea from his own loan stint. Oliveira identified Jorgensen as the right fit, and the player gave his approval to make the switch (BBC Sport).

The deal also reflects the wider relationship between the two clubs. Chelsea and Strasbourg are both part of the BlueCo ownership group — the Clearlake-Boehly consortium that owns both clubs. That shared ownership has already facilitated 14 deals between the two sides, including Chelsea's permanent signings of midfielder Valentin Barco, striker Emmanuel Emegha and defender Mamadou Sarr, and Strasbourg's recent loan signing of 19-year-old Chelsea academy defender Genesis Antwi (BBC Sport). Sarr himself was loaned back to Strasbourg last August and helped the side reach the UEFA Conference League proper (Chelsea FC).

For Jorgensen, the appeal is straightforward. He wants to play every week. Strasbourg, under a manager who specifically wanted his profile, can offer that. Chelsea, in turn, keep a developing goalkeeper in a system they trust while he gains the minutes he needs.
