Hulu and Disney+ have renewed The Artful Dodger for a third and final season, giving the Australian period drama one more chapter to close out its story. Deadline broke the news on 4 August 2026.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster will reprise his role as the thieving title character — the pickpocket from Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, here reimagined as a young surgeon in 1850s Australia, fifteen years on from the novel's events. David Thewlis returns as Fagin, and Maia Mitchell is back as Lady Belle Fox.

Filming is set to get underway in Sydney in the coming months, according to Deadline's report. Behind the camera, the creative team stays intact: Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner of Sony Pictures Television's Curio Pictures return as executive producers and producers, Chris Martin-Jones as series producer, and Ben Young and Ben C. Lucas as directors. BAFTA nominee Andrew Knight leads scripting as executive producer, with Dan Knight as script producer. The series was co-created by James McNamara, David Maher, and David Taylor.

The show has been a strong performer for Disney. According to Disney, The Artful Dodger has become the most-viewed Australian original title on Disney+ — a metric based on the platform's own internal viewership data. The first two seasons are streaming globally on Disney+ and on Hulu in the U.S.

Season 2 dropped on Disney+ on 10 February 2026, all eight episodes at once, and picked up a nomination for Best Scripted Comedy Program at the 66th TV Week Logie Awards, Australia's long-running television honours. That nomination came in June 2026, four months after the season's premiere.

The renewal timeline tracks a steady pattern. Deadline first reported the Season 2 greenlight back in November 2024, roughly a year after the series premiered on Hulu in the U.S. on 29 November 2023. Now Season 3 arrives with a clear label: this is the final run.

Kylie Watson-Wheeler, Disney Australia and New Zealand's SVP and managing director, praised the renewal as a testament to the show's quality. Her role puts her at the centre of Disney's Australian production slate, which has made The Artful Dodger a flagship local commission — a show produced for the global Disney+ audience but made in Australia with an Australian cast and crew.

For the two hundred-plus people who work on a production of this scale, a final-season order means something concrete: a finish line with time to plan for it, rather than an abrupt cancellation. Writers can close the arc. Crews know how long the job runs. And fans of a Dickens-adjacent caper get a proper ending rather than a cliffhanger left dangling.
