Disney+ and Hulu Renew "Alice and Steve" for a Second Season
Disney+ and Hulu have renewed the comedy series "Alice and Steve" for a second season, according to Variety. The show streams on Disney+ in the U.K. and Ireland and on both Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S.
The series follows Alice, played by Nicola Walker, whose best friend Steve (Jemaine Clement) begins dating her 26-year-old daughter Izzy, played by Yali Topol Margalith. Joel Fry also stars alongside the trio, according to the show's listing on IMDb. The cast pairing drew notice from Variety critic Alison Herman, who called Walker and Clement "hilarious" in her review of the first season.
"Alice and Steve" was created and written by Sophie Goodhart. Executive producers are Petra Fried, Sophie Gardiner and Wim de Greef, with Rachael Stephenson serving as co-executive producer. The series is produced by Clerkenwell Films, which sits within BBC Studios — the commercial production arm of the British broadcaster. The original commission came from Lee Mason, VP of scripted at Disney+ EMEA, the division that oversees original programming across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
For a second season, the renewal keeps the show across both sides of Disney's streaming operation: Disney+, the platform's flagship service, and Hulu, its U.S.-focused streamer that Disney took full ownership of in 2024. That dual placement means the series reaches subscribers on both the family-branded tier and the more adult-skewing Hulu brand — a distribution pattern Disney has used for titles that sit between the two audiences.
The renewal also extends Disney+ EMEA's investment in British-made scripted comedy, a lane the platform has built steadily as it competes with the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 for U.K. commissioning talent. Clerkenwell Films, the production company behind the series, has a track record in British comedy and drama; its parent BBC Studios handles global distribution.
No premiere date, episode count or production start for the second season has been announced.
