Amazon has greenlit a U.S. version of LOL: Last One Laughing, the comedy competition format that has been remade in more than 25 territories but never before produced in the United States. Fulwell Entertainment will produce, with Eric Pankowski serving as showrunner. Ben Winston and Emma Conway join Pankowski as executive producers. The cast will be revealed at a later date. The premise is simple and brutal. A group of comedians is locked in a room together for hours. The rule: do not laugh. Anyone who cracks is eliminated. The last comedian keeping a straight face wins. The format originated from the Japanese series Documental and has since travelled from Mexico to South Africa to Ireland.

That travel has been extensive. Eugenio Derbez hosts the Mexican version, now in its eighth season, which placed ten comedians in a jungle setting. Trevor Noah fronts the South African edition. Graham Norton hosts the Irish one. Rebel Wilson launched the Australian version in 2020, the first Australian Amazon Original series, premiering in more than 200 countries and territories. The UK version, hosted by Jimmy Carr, was one of Amazon's biggest ever series launches when its first season dropped. A second UK season launched on Prime Video earlier this year, with the first three episodes arriving on 19 March and episodes four and five following on 26 March. The format has also reached deep into Latin America. Brazil is set to return for a tenth season on Prime Video. Colombia premiered its version on 16 April 2025, with Jorge Enrique Abello — known for Betty la Fea — returning as host. (Amazon, 28 January 2026; Amazon, 4 March 2025)

Behind the U.S. version sits a production team with a track record. Fulwell Entertainment, co-founded by Ben Winston, is behind Hulu's The Kardashians and Fox's World Cup After Hours with James Corden. The greenlight comes through Amazon MGM Studios, where Jenn Levy is Head of Nonfiction Series. (Deadline, 4 August 2026)

No premiere date, episode count, or host has been announced for the U.S. edition. What Amazon has confirmed is that one of its most globally successful unscripted formats will finally get an American room of its own.
