Brandon Flowers, the frontman of the Killers, says he is questioning how much longer he wants to continue his career as a rock star. In a new interview with the UK newspaper The Times, the 45-year-old asked himself: "How much longer do I want to do this, what does it mean, why am I doing it anyway?" (Billboard).

Flowers told The Times he often thinks of Mick Jagger when weighing how long to keep going, according to Radio X (Radio X). The remarks come as Flowers prepares to release his third solo album, Thrasher, on 21 August via Island Records. The 10-track record is his first solo effort in more than a decade, following 2015's The Desired Effect (Billboard; The Needle Drop). The lead single, "Plans," was unveiled in early July (Facebook).

Flowers recorded Thrasher in Nashville with producers Shawn Everett and Johnathan Rado. He described the album's overall mood as closer to his father's music, with a country and western influence running through it. The songs, he said, are "life songs, not love songs" (Billboard).

Several tracks draw directly from Flowers' own biography. "Paradise" chronicles the story of his cousin Bobby, who still works as a valet for Las Vegas resorts. "One of Us" is about Flowers' brother-in-law, a Mormon missionary who tried to convert the singer's father. "Miss America" refers to a meeting at a car wash where Kevin Bacon filmed a scene for the 1984 film Footloose (Billboard).

Flowers, a devout Mormon who prefers that term to the formal Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been taking stock of a career that now spans more than 20 years. Before the Killers, his first job was as a busboy at Spago in Caesars Palace, followed by stints at a French brasserie and a golf course (Billboard).

Flowers planned to support Thrasher with a fall tour, though the scope of those dates has not been detailed in the interview or subsequent reporting (Billboard).
