The move sends a 32-year-old pass-catcher with 11,504 career receiving yards to a team built around third-year quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The fit has been building for months. NFL.com reported back in June that Diggs was open to playing for his hometown team, and ESPN's Jeremy Fowler noted mutual interest between the two sides a day before the agreement. Diggs is a Maryland product who grew up in the Washington area, adding a homecoming layer to what is otherwise a straight football decision.

Diggs arrives with a clean bill of legal standing. On May 5, 2026, a jury in Dedham, Massachusetts acquitted him of strangling or assaulting his private chef in an alleged December incident. The NFL separately determined there was insufficient evidence of violations of its personal conduct policy, meaning he faces no suspension for the 2026 season.

Returning from a torn ACL, Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns across 17 games for the New England Patriots — his seventh 1,000-yard campaign in the past eight years.
