The Broken Lizard comedy troupe returns to the highway on August 7, 2026, when Super Troopers 3 opens as a wide theatrical release through Searchlight Pictures, and Variety has the first review.

The five members of Broken Lizard — Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske — all reprise their roles as the mustachioed Vermont state troopers whose talent for chaos has anchored the franchise since the 2001 original. The new film picks up roughly eight years after Super Troopers 2. That 2018 sequel was crowdfunded with nearly $5 million after studios doubted public appetite for a follow-up to the 2001 original, which itself took 17 years to get a sequel. The plot threads two storylines together. In the first, gruff former captain O'Hagen — played by Brian Cox — has retired, replaced by the politically correct Markowski, played by Nat Faxon. Senior trooper Thorny (Chandrasekhar) and his colleague Farva (Heffernan) keep up their running frenemy dynamic, but this time Farva becomes engaged to Thorny's sister Sarita, played by Hannah Simone, triggering elaborate Indian-American wedding preparations. The road to a third film was long. Variety first reported in 2021 that Broken Lizard was developing Super Troopers 3: Winter Soldiers (Variety, 3 November 2021). By April 2026, Variety was describing the trailer as a raunchy comedy filled with high-speed chases and a wedding gone wrong (Variety, 21 April 2026).

For a franchise that once had to ask fans for money to prove a sequel was wanted, landing at a Disney label for a wide theatrical release is a different road entirely. The troopers report for duty on Friday.
