Kristen Bell swings a broadsword as Mrs. Claus in the Violent Night 2 trailer, but the character nearly arrived three years earlier in a very different form. Producer Kelly McCormick told SlashFilm that the 2022 original almost introduced Santa's wife in a post-credits "button" scene — a short sting that rolls after the main credits, teasing what might come next. That version, McCormick said, would have been "totally different" from the character Bell now plays.

The idea lasted exactly one day. The writing team of Pat Casey and Josh Miller drafted the scene, then threw it out the very next morning, according to Deadline. McCormick admitted the filmmakers "overthought" the introduction to the point that they never made an offer for the role at all. Mrs. Claus got only a passing mention in the first film.

Bell's casting in the sequel came about through a mix of friendship and persistence. McCormick, who produces alongside her husband David Leitch through their company 87North, told Deadline she was "obsessed" with the three-time Emmy nominee. Bell also shares a long friendship with David Harbour, who stars as the vengeful, magic-wielding Santa at the centre of the franchise.

Violent Night 2 arrives in theatres December 4, directed by Tommy Wirkola from Casey and Miller's script. The story sends Santa on a redemption arc after he lands on the Naughty List and is stripped of his powers, all while a ruthless mobster terrorises a shopping mall. The trailer, released earlier this year, shows Bell's Mrs. Claus wielding a large sword — a detail that quickly caught fans' attention, as SlashFilm noted in its coverage.

The first Violent Night, released in 2022, turned a home-invasion action premise into a holiday-season genre entry. Harbour played a disillusioned Santa forced to fight off mercenaries. The sequel widens the world, giving Mrs. Claus a full role rather than a throwaway reference.

For fans of the original, the scuttled credits scene is a peek at how close the character came to arriving sooner — and how a single overnight decision redirected the franchise's path.
