Hilary Duff brought out Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte during her Madison Square Garden show on 5 August 2026, joining her band for a performance of the band's 2002 single "The Anthem." The surprise cameo came at a stop on Duff's Lucky Me Tour, her arena run supporting the album Luck … or Something, released 20 February via Atlantic and her first new record in over a decade. "The Anthem" originally appeared on Good Charlotte's 2002 album The Young and the Hopeless, a record that cemented the Maryland band's place in the pop-punk wave of the early 2000s. For Duff, the choice of guest carried its own history: she dated Joel Madden from 2004 to 2006, and the two have remained close in the years since. She told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in 2023 that she and the Madden family are neighbours who see each other regularly.

The Lucky Me Tour kicked off in June and included two dates at Madison Square Garden. Duff's official website lists the 5 August show at the venue on its live events page. From here, the tour heads to the U.K. before wrapping in Mexico City on 12 February 2027.

Duff's return to music has been gradual. She came back late last year with the single "Mature," followed by "Roommates," before releasing Luck … or Something in February. The album followed 2015's Breathe In. Breathe Out., a gap of more than ten years between records. Earlier in 2026, she staged the Small Rooms, Big Nerves Tour, where she performed "What Dreams Are Made Of" from 2003's The Lizzie McGuire Movie for the first time ever.

The MSG appearance paired an artist rebuilding her touring footprint with a band whose catalogue still draws arena-volume reactions. Duff's audience grew up alongside both.
