Deadpool's entire moveset in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is built from references to other fighting games — and a new video breaking them all down has fans picking through every frame.

The video, posted on X by user Whisp90, catalogues the references packed into Deadpool's move list, which was showcased in a character guide released around 5 August 2026 (EventHubs). The roster of callbacks spans franchises old and new: Marvel vs Capcom 3, Guilty Gear Strive, Street Fighter 4, Street Fighter 6, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tekken, and Mortal Kombat are all in the mix (Eurogamer).

Some of the references are the kind of thing only long-time fighting game players would catch. One points to Street Fighter: The Movie — The Game, a notoriously odd 1995 tie-in that most people would rather forget. Deadpool also has a super move structured as a medley of attacks built into the framework of Skullomania's Skullo Dream super from Street Fighter EX2 Plus, a game from 2000. And his game-winning animation recreates the classic win screen from Street Fighter 2 — the pose, the camera, the lot.

For a fighting game character, a move list is the set of attacks and combos a player can perform — the vocabulary the character speaks in combat. Deadpool's vocabulary happens to be entirely quotations from other games' vocabularies, stitched together with the mercenary's characteristic disregard for boundaries.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 tag-team fighting game — meaning players pick four characters each and swap between them mid-fight — developed in partnership between PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works (the studio behind the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series), and Marvel Games (Marvel). It is scheduled to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC (PlayStation).

What makes the reference-heavy moveset land is the involvement of Arc System Works, a developer with deep roots in the fighting game community and a reputation for animation that honours the genre's history. Deadpool — a character defined in the comics by breaking the fourth wall — is a natural fit for a moveset that breaks the fourth wall of fighting game design itself.

The video has been circulating ahead of the game's release, giving players an early look at how deep the references go and how much there is to find for those who know where to look.
