Netflix's 'The Last House' traps a family — and a director who called it his hardest shoot

Netflix releases The Last House on 7 August 2026, an original sci-fi thriller about a Seattle family who wake up sealed inside their own home with no way out. Directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Matthew Robinson, the film stars Wagner Moura and Greta Lee as the parents at the centre of the nightmare (Variety).

The Delgado family — out-of-work engineer Jason (Moura), mother Ann (Lee), and pre-teen siblings Graham (Noah Alexander Sosnowski) and Ruth (Riley Chung) — find their house locked down during a heavy November rainstorm. Doors and windows will not open, held by an unseen outside force; internet and phone signals are cut. An indefinite enforced house arrest, with no explanation and no end in sight (Variety).

Gabriel Barbosa rounds out the cast alongside Moura and Lee, with Netflix listing the film under its US and Sci-Fi genres (Netflix). The streamer first teased the project under the working title 11817 back in April 2025, then dropped an official trailer in June 2026 showing Lee and Moura locked inside their home (Netflix Tudum; Netflix Tudum).

For Leterrier, the sealed-house conceit was not just a premise but a production ordeal. He called the film the most difficult he has ever made. "It was awful," he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published 6 August 2026 (The Hollywood Reporter).

The director is best known for big-action studio films — Clash of the Titans, Now You See Me, and the Fast & Furious entry Hobbs & Shaw — which makes a single-location chamber thriller an unusual gear shift. Whether that shift draws subscribers is a question Netflix will answer when the film lands on its platform today.

Netflix maintains an official title page for The Last House at netflix.com/title/81914143, where the film is available to stream from 7 August 2026 (Netflix; Netflix Tudum).
