Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey led the U.K. and Ireland box office through July with a gross of £56.2 million ($75.6 million), making it the highest-grossing title of 2026 in that market after just three weeks on release. The figure puts it ahead of Toy Story 5 ($71.6 million) and Michael ($71.4 million) for the year to date, according to Variety's report on Rentrak data published 7 August 2026.

The U.K. and Ireland market posted a total of £178.2 million ($239.7 million) for July — 35% ahead of the equivalent five-week period in 2025, when Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and F1 The Movie combined for most of the business. Year-to-date grosses have now passed $1.05 billion, running 18% ahead of 2025 and 34% ahead of 2024.

The Odyssey opened to £16.7 million, the second-biggest opening of Nolan's career behind The Dark Knight Rises (£19.2 million). At the same three-week stage of release, Oppenheimer had reached $80.4 million and The Dark Knight Rises $59.2 million; The Odyssey's $75.6 million puts it ahead of both, and on track to overtake Nolan's top U.K. performer, Oppenheimer ($80.4 million). It is already his fourth-highest-grossing film in the territory.

Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, placed second for July with $71.3 million. Its opening week of $49 million including previews was bettered in U.K. history only by Spectre ($55.4 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($58.4 million), joining Star Wars: The Force Awakens in a small club of films to clear $67.3 million in their first week. After one week, it sat 14% ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home ($62.4 million), which went on to gross $130.9 million — the highest-grossing Spider-Man title in the market.

Toy Story 5, the top film in June, added $28 million in July for third place and now ranks as the seventh-best-performing animated title in U.K. box office history. Minions & Monsters opened to $5.8 million on its way to $20.8 million for the month, while the live-action Moana remake debuted to $3.8 million — up from the 2016 animated original's $3 million — and reached $15.2 million. Olivia Wilde's The Invite rounded out the wider top ten at $4.8 million, her second-highest-grossing U.K. title behind Don't Worry Darling ($14.1 million).

Globally, The Odyssey launched on 17 July 2026 with an estimated $264.1 million worldwide, comprising $124.5 million domestic (the United States and Canada) and $139.6 million from 73 overseas territories, according to Deadline and Variety. That domestic figure marked Nolan's biggest debut since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. The BFI is scheduled to publish its official U.K. box office statistics for January through June 2026 on 10 November 2026.
