Two Scary Games Are Back, and You Play Them Differently

SILENT HILL: Townfall came out on September 24, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam and Epic Games Store. Konami calls it an immersive first-person horror game in the series. Konami
A new town and a new view
The story is set in a quiet Scottish town, not the Maine town the series is named for. The fog, isolation and small town with a hidden past still fit. You play in first-person all the way through, like a helmet camera, so you see what the character sees. Older Silent Hill games used fixed cameras or a view from behind the shoulder. Here fear builds when walls and fog block your view and sound tells you where danger is.
Konami said in 2022 that the series would return. An earlier planned reboot, Silent Hills from Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, was cancelled in 2015. The new plan uses several games. Silent Hill f is a spinoff set in Japan. Townfall keeps the present-day Western setting. The Verge
The Verge, in a story published September 25, 2026, calls Silent Hill and Resident Evil gaming's two biggest horror series, both at the height of their powers. That wording is the outlet's. Both sides have full release lists.
Two Resident Evil heroes, two ways to play
Capcom's Resident Evil Requiem has two main characters for two styles. FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft leads the scary survival horror parts, where bullets are few and hiding matters. Leon S. Kennedy leads the fast action parts. Capcom describes the game that split way in its own materials. Resident Evil
Koshi Nakanishi directs Resident Evil Requiem. He said balancing action and horror has been a huge challenge. BBC The problem is common. Ammo, saves, enemy numbers, movement speed and how tough enemies are need one setting for slow search play and another for heavy fighting.
The pattern here is common for people who make games. Using two leads keeps those needs apart. It does not make them go away.
More devices and a new film
Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 are coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, 2026. Capcom lists Resident Evil 7 biohazard as Available Now for Apple devices. Capcom
The Resident Evil film reboot titled Resident Evil was directed by Weapons director Zach Cregger. It is about a hapless delivery driver, not Leon or Claire. It had the best box office opening in series history. The Verge
The broader context here is that horror games are trying different tools at the same time. Townfall uses first-person play on PS5 and PC, where lights, thick fog and placed sound help players feel danger. Requiem keeps low supplies for one story and faster moves, more guns and more fights for the other. The Switch 2 and Apple versions bring the same series to machines with very different power, heat and controls.
In my view, this split is good. I have watched my own kids play. First-person made them pull back. Third-person made them learn and push ahead. Makers can now study both without forcing one middle version. The risk is more work and more testing. The payoff is learning what truly scares players, not just what makes them jump, and building tools for hiding and searching that can help other games too.
