Beginning in late August, adult Xbox accounts must verify their age to access apps and games rated 18+ across both storefronts, according to the company. Xbox has started sending emails and Xbox messages to Australian users informing them they may be asked to confirm their identity to access R18+ titles.
The verification options are varied. Users can confirm their age via email-based verification, by sharing a credit card or government ID such as a passport or driver's licence, or through facial verification via a selfie upload. Australia has been tightening its rules around online access for minors.
