Power Book III: Raising Kanan Ends After Five Seasons — and Points Straight at Power: Origins

Power Book III: Raising Kanan has wrapped its five-season run on Starz, and the series finale does not go quietly. Three major characters — Lou (Malcolm Mays), Marvin (London Brown), and Raq (Patina Miller) — are killed off before the credits roll, closing the chapter on Kanan Stark's origin story in brutal fashion.

The fifth and final season premiered on Friday, 12 June 2026, with weekly episodes on Starz. The finale, titled 'UNCONDITIONAL LOVE' and running 58 minutes, was scheduled for Monday, 10 August 2026, according to the Starz schedule (Starz schedule). But the real sting comes after the credits. A post-credits scene travels back in time, landing on Kanan's birthday. The mostly deceased family members are present for Raquel — now a new mother — while an episode of the 1970s sitcom Good Times plays on the television. Specifically, Season 2, Episode 24, 'The Lunch Money Ripoff.' For creator Sascha Penn, the choice was personal: he told Deadline that Good Times sits on his Mount Rushmore of television and he has watched every episode (Deadline, 10 August 2026).

The scene also introduces young versions of Tommy and Ghost — the two characters at the centre of the original Power series. They are so young that Kanan, Penn said, won't mess with them. Penn revealed that the young Tommy and Ghost were written into the Raising Kanan finale before the team knew Power: Origins was happening.

Power: Origins is a prequel series that brings together Ghost (Spence Moore), Tommy (Charlie Mann), and Kanan Stark (Mekai Curtis). Penn is the creator of both Raising Kanan and Origins. The first season of Power: Origins has wrapped production, but no premiere date has been set (Deadline, 7 August 2026).

Penn told Deadline he wanted to give Raising Kanan fans "a little more for the road," which is why the finale included the after-credits scene. Joe Pantoliano, cast in February 2026 as the head of the Manhattan Mafia, joined the final season (Deadline, 19 February 2026).

For fans, the finale closes one door and props open another. Raising Kanan is done. Origins is waiting in the wings — filmed, but undated. The post-credits scene, with its young Ghost and Tommy, is the bridge between them, whether Penn knew it at the time or not.
