Power: Origins Goes Back to Ghost and Tommy's Early Years

Mekai Curtis is returning as Kanan Stark in Power: Origins, the next series in the Power franchise. He told The Hollywood Reporter about his role in the new show, which has already finished filming.
The franchise has a long run on Starz behind it. Power Book III: Raising Kanan debuted on July 21, 2021, and ran for five seasons. Patina Miller played Kanan's mother, Raquel "Raq" Thomas, across that run. Starz renewed the show for a fifth season in March 2024.
This new series is a prequel, meaning it tells earlier events in the story. Starz greenlit it in July 2025 as a show focused on Ghost and Tommy, the two characters at the heart of the original Power. Spence Moore II plays young Ghost, whose full name is James "Ghost" St. Patrick. Charlie Mann plays young Tommy Egan.
The Hollywood Reporter published a first look at the two young actors in July 2026. Breeze, a character who appeared in the earlier shows, will appear alongside Kanan. Tony Danza's character, Stefano, will not appear in Power: Origins.
Sascha Penn is spearheading the new series. Penn also worked on Raising Kanan, and was among the panellists who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about that show in March 2025.
Starz's official page for Power: Origins lists the show as "Coming soon to STARZ." It carries the tagline "All legends start somewhere," and includes a trailer. The page does not give a premiere date, so viewers will need to watch Starz for the launch date.
For fans who followed Kanan through five seasons, the new series moves the camera to an earlier stage of the story. It asks the audience to watch Ghost and Tommy as younger men, before the paths that defined the franchise took shape. Curtis's return gives that story a link back to the show that came before it.
The series has been filmed, and the cast and creative team are set. What remains is the moment Starz chooses to put it on screen.
