The filmed stage production of Hadestown: The Musical has been confirmed for a UK cinema release on 13 October 2026, after showtimes appeared on major cinema chain websites this week. The date was spotted by fans rather than announced through an official distributor statement, but it lines up with the October window the producers had previously indicated for the UK. WhatsOnStage

The film is a live capture — a professionally filmed recording of a stage performance, designed for cinema distribution rather than a conventional movie adaptation. It was shot by director Brett Sullivan of Steam Motion and Sound across three performances during a limited 2025 London season, in which the original Broadway cast reunited at a West End venue. That cast is the draw for many who followed the show's original run. André de Shields plays Hermes, with Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Amber Gray as Persephone and Patrick Page as Hades — the same lineup that opened the Broadway production in 2019 and won eight Tony Awards that year. The show has music, lyrics and book by Anaïs Mitchell, with direction by Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin.

North American audiences have already had the chance to see it. The film opened in cinemas across the US and Canada in July 2026, following a 24 July release date announced earlier in the year via the official Hadestown Instagram account. WhatsOnStage; Broadway Direct

For UK audiences, the October release brings a production that has toured British stages but never with this original cast assembled together on film. The live capture format has grown more common in recent years, with shows including Hamilton and Les Misérables: The Staged Concert reaching cinema audiences — but each one depends on whether enough venues book it to justify the distribution costs.

Hadestown: The Musical is the first in a planned series of Broadway live captures from Crosswalk and LD, two production companies that have said they intend to film further stage shows for cinema release together. Whether that series expands will depend, as it always does in this format, on how the first title performs at the box office.

For now, the date is on the boards. UK cinema listings showing 13 October are the clearest signal yet that the wait is nearly over.
