Netflix's thriller The Last House claimed the top spot on the platform's Top Ten list with 27.1 million views in its first week, according to Deadline. That figure ranks as the fifth-best opening for a Netflix original film in 2026.

The film stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, with Louis Leterrier directing. Its premise is claustrophobic by design: a family of four is suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, forced to survive against dwindling supplies and an unidentified threat closing in.

What gives the opening extra context is the production company behind it. The Last House comes from Chernin Entertainment, which has been building a conspicuous track record on Netflix this year. In April 2026, Chernin's film Apex debuted on the platform with 38.2 million views — a bigger bow still — and the Chernin-produced series Man on Fire, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen III, also opened at number one the same month.
