Scam 2010: Hansal Mehta Returns to the Franchise With the Subrata Roy Saga
SonyLIV has unveiled the first look at Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga, the third instalment in a franchise that has become one of Indian streaming's most recognised drama series, with director Hansal Mehta back at the helm and actor Siddharth Bodke in the lead role Variety.
The series tells the story of Subrata Roy, the businessman who built the Sahara India Pariwar conglomerate and was accused of multiple financial misdemeanours in the early 2000s, leading to his arrest in 2014. Roy died in 2023. The show is based on Sahara: The Untold Story, a book by the financial journalist Tamal Bandyopadhyay Variety.
Produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment for SonyLIV, Scam 2010 is currently in production and will stream exclusively on the platform. It is part of an extensive content slate that Sony Pictures Networks India unveiled on 10 August 2026 Variety. Production was already nearing completion by late July, according to the Times of India and Hindustan Times, which both reported Bodke's casting as Roy around that time.
The franchise began with Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, which Mehta also directed, followed by Scam 2003: The Telgi Story. Deepak Segal, chief content officer at Applause Entertainment, said Scam 1992 "became one of the most loved and culturally resonant series to emerge from India," and called Mehta's return to direct the new instalment "particularly exciting" Variety.
Mehta himself described Scam 2010 as a story about "ambition, influence and the arrogance that follows both," framing it as the rise of an empire and a man who mistook it for invincibility Variety. Bodke, for his part, said he was "floored" by the complexity of the lead character's personality and the scale of the production.
The road to this first look has not been entirely smooth. When the series was first announced in May 2025, the Sahara Group issued a statement calling the project "an abusive and grossly condemnable act" Yahoo News Singapore. SonyLIV confirmed on 10 August that the series would go ahead despite the legal threat Deadline. Two days later, Gaurav Banerjee, managing director and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India, said he believes the dispute has been resolved Variety.
No premiere date has been announced. What is certain is that the Scam franchise, which turned Indian financial scandals into some of the country's most-watched streaming drama, now has a third chapter — and the director who started it all is back behind the camera.
