Phantom Blade Zero Gets an 11-Minute Trailer, Donnie Yen Role, and a State of Play Next Week
An 11-minute trailer for Phantom Blade Zero went live on August 11, 2026, confirming that martial arts film star Donnie Yen appears in the game and revealing an October 29 release date for PlayStation 5 and PC.
The trailer — described as a pre-order trailer by developer S-Game — shows Yen in the role of Mo Yuan, the father of protagonist Soul. According to S-Game, Yen has served as the game's creative consultant since 2023. S-Game is a Chinese studio led by founder and CEO Soulframe Liang, who said the trailer is "only the beginning" and that more is coming at a dedicated PlayStation showcase.
Sony has scheduled a State of Play presentation — the company's irregular broadcast format for game news and announcements — entirely focused on Phantom Blade Zero. It takes place on Monday, August 17 at 7pm Pacific Time (10pm Eastern Time, 3am British Summer Time on August 18). Pre-orders also opened on August 11, the same day Sony published the announcement on the official PlayStation Blog.
The State of Play is billed as a gameplay deep dive, covering the game's combat systems, dynamic combat mechanics, and its dark wuxia world — wuxia being a Chinese fiction genre of martial arts heroes and chivalric adventure. Liang has said the presentation will introduce never-before-seen characters.
For a single game to command its own State of Play is unusual. Sony typically uses the format to cover a slate of upcoming titles, and dedicating an entire broadcast to one release signals a close partnership between the platform holder and S-Game. That Donnie Yen — the star behind the Ip Man film series and a global name in martial arts cinema — is both on screen and in a creative role adds star power that few action games can claim.
Players who want a closer look before the October 29 launch will get their chance on August 17. The full 11-minute trailer is already available on S-Game's official newsroom and across the studio's social channels.
