Phantom Blade Zero Launches and Climbs to Second Most-Played on Steam

Phantom Blade Zero, a wuxia action game from S-Game, was released on 28 October 2026. Wuxia is a genre of martial-arts stories set in ancient China, and the game puts players in the role of a fighter with a very short time left to live.
The launch has been loud on Steam, the PC storefront run by Valve where most people buy and play PC games. According to Eurogamer, the game reached a peak of 431,541 concurrent players, meaning the number of people playing at the same moment. That put it second on Steam's most-played list, just behind Counter-Strike 2. It also rose 16 places in a week to lead Steam's global top sellers chart.
For comparison, Black Myth: Wukong, another Chinese-developed action game, peaked at 2,415,714 concurrent players on Steam when it launched in 2024. Those figures measure different moments and different launch conditions, so they are simply two numbers on the same scale.
Sales are harder to pin down. Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott estimated that Phantom Blade Zero has sold 850,000 copies across PC and PlayStation 5. That is an outside estimate, not a figure from the publisher. Early player reviews on Steam are rated Mostly Positive, the platform's label for a generally favourable set of reviews.
The game's story, as its Steam store page describes it, follows a protagonist named Soul. He has been framed for murdering his master. After suffering a devastating wound to the heart, he has sixty-six days to live. That countdown gives the story its clock.
The store page also lists the game's scale. It features more than 30 primary weapons and more than 20 unique Phantom Edges. It is built with Unreal Engine 5, a game engine, which is the software toolkit many studios use to make games look and move the way they do.
Players in China can also get the game through WeGame, a PC game platform run by Tencent, the Chinese technology company. A platform like WeGame is another storefront, the digital shop where a game is bought and downloaded.
Launch numbers like these can shift quickly over the first days and weeks, as players come and go and sales trackers update. For now, the game has gone from release to the top of the charts in its first days, and that is the story so far.
