Phantom Blade Zero Launches to 723,876 Steam Players at Peak
Phantom Blade Zero drew 723,876 players on Steam at the same moment, a peak reached within a few hours of its launch. GameSpot reported the figure, which counts people playing at once on the PC storefront run by Valve.
The action game launched on October 29, 2026, on PC and PS5. Hours after release, it also reached the top of Steam's best-selling chart, IGN reported. Vice described it as the most-played single-player release on Steam this year.
Sales started well before launch day. GameSpot put pre-launch sales at an estimated 1 million units. Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott reported a lower figure of 850,000 units, with 62.5% of those sales coming from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. GameSpot also reported that the pre-launch sales generated US$43 million in revenue. IGN said the early revenue was enough to place the game among the top 40 titles of 2026 by revenue.
The release date has moved before. In a creative director letter published on June 2, 2026, the studio S-Game said the launch had been shifted from September 9, 2026, to October 29, 2026. Pre-orders were open on PS5, Steam and the Epic Games Store, a second PC storefront, and the studio released an 11-minute trailer ahead of launch.
Launch day also brought a message from the team. S-Game creative director Soulframe Liang published a letter thanking fans and studio staff for the game's arrival. The studio built the game on Unreal Engine 5, a widely used engine made by Epic Games that handles graphics and game logic. Earlier, S-Game had said the game would include ray tracing, a lighting method that traces the paths of light for more realistic reflections and shadows. It also said the game would support Nvidia's DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, a feature that adds extra frames to make motion look smoother.
Players can now buy the game on PC or PS5.
