Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Trailer Leaks Online, Producer Chris Miller Pushes Back
Roughly four minutes of unfinished footage from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse leaked onto social media on 14 August 2026, circulating widely on X before Sony could pull it down (Variety; IGN Southeast Asia).
Producer Chris Miller disavowed the leak the same day. "Not a fan of unfinished, not fully rendered footage," he wrote on Friday (Variety). Miller, who produces the Spider-Verse trilogy alongside Phil Lord, was making clear that what fans were watching was not the polished product headed for cinemas.
The film is the conclusion to the animated trilogy that began with Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and continued with Across the Spider-Verse (2023). It is set to wrap up the story of Miles Morales as Spider-Man and is scheduled for theatrical release on 18 June 2027 (Variety). Bob Persichetti, who co-directed the first film, is directing the conclusion (Sony Pictures Animation). According to Sony's official plot description, Miles is hunted by Miguel O'Hara's Spider Society, betrayed by his friends, and forced to search the darkest corners of the Spider-Verse for a way home (Sony Pictures Animation).
The first official footage from Beyond the Spider-Verse was shown exclusively at CinemaCon, the annual theatre-owners convention in Las Vegas, earlier in 2026 (Variety). That reel was never released publicly.
This is not the first time a Spider-Man project has slipped out early. The trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) leaked weeks before its official online debut (Variety). More recently, the pattern has intensified. In the month before this leak, both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day appeared on X after their theatrical releases. Earlier in the year, the full version of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender leaked on the platform months ahead of its Paramount+ streaming premiere. A 26-year-old man was arrested in Singapore for illegally accessing a media server to obtain that film (Variety).
For fans, the leaked Beyond the Spider-Verse footage offers an early glimpse of a film still nearly two years from release. For Sony, it is an unwelcome reminder that the gap between a finished shot and a finished film is exactly the gap a leak exploits. Miller's objection — that what circulated was not fully rendered — cuts to the point: animation at this scale is built in layers, and a leaked clip may carry none of the polish that defines the final product.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse arrives in cinemas on 18 June 2027.
