Djed Spence joins Inter Milan from Tottenham in £25.6m deal
Inter Milan have signed England full-back Djed Spence from Tottenham on a five-year deal, with the Serie A champions paying a fee of around 30 million euros (£25.6m) for the 26-year-old (BBC Sport).
The Italian club marked the arrival with an official announcement video, titled "Signature #4 | Djed Spence," on their Inter TV channel (Inter.it). Spence had all but confirmed the move himself earlier on Saturday, posting a farewell message to Tottenham supporters across his social media accounts.
This is Spence's second spell in Italian football. He spent six months on loan at Genoa in 2024, where he even came off the bench against Inter during a Serie A matchday in the 2023-24 season. Now he returns to the country as a Serie A champion's signing — a very different proposition.
Spence arrived at Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022 for an initial £12.5m and made 85 appearances for the club across four seasons. His time in north London had its high points: he helped Spurs win the 2024-25 Europa League, the club's first major trophy in 17 years, and made 44 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign. He was also a key figure for England at the World Cup, featuring in all eight of Thomas Tuchel's side's matches as they finished third.
He is the second England international to join Inter this summer. John Stones, the former Manchester City centre-back, moved to the San Siro after his contract at the Etihad expired, reuniting with a league that increasingly sees Premier League regulars seek new challenges on the continent.
Spence was signed to replace Denzel Dumfries, the Dutch right-back who transferred from Inter to Real Madrid earlier in the window (ESPN). Filling that gap gives the Nerazzurri — the black-and-blue half of Milan — a defender entering his prime years, comfortable on the ball and battle-tested across two of Europe's top five leagues.
The deal came together quickly. Talks were reported to be under way by 11 August (The Athletic), Sky Sports confirmed an agreement for a £30m total package on the 14th (Sky Sports), and the move was completed the following day.
For Tottenham, the sale represents a healthy return on a player they signed for roughly half the fee four years ago. For Inter, it is a statement of intent — replacing a departed international with another, five years younger and arriving on the back of a World Cup summer.
