Susan Egan Casts Zendaya and Tom Holland in a Live-Action Hercules — From the Red Carpet at D23
Susan Egan, the original voice of Megara in Disney's 1997 animated Hercules, has named her picks for a live-action remake: Zendaya as Meg and Tom Holland as Hercules. Egan made the suggestion while speaking with Deadline on the red carpet at D23, Disney's fan convention, on Sunday, with the interview clips distributed across Deadline's Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Threads accounts (Deadline).
Egan knows the part. She voiced Meg — the quick-witted, guarded heroine who steals Hercules's heart — in the original animated feature, and her casting nomination carries the weight of someone who built the character from the recording booth.
The pairing she floated is not a random fantasy. Holland and Zendaya have starred together across four Spider-Man films: Homecoming (2017), Far From Home (2019), No Way Home (2021), and Brand New Day (2026). Those films have generated nearly $6 billion for Disney, according to Deadline. Their summer 2026 appearance in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has surpassed $1.29 billion at the worldwide box office. The two are, by any commercial measure, one of the most bankable on-screen duos working today.
A live-action Hercules has been on Disney's development slate since 2020. Guy Ritchie was tapped to direct in 2022. No cast has been announced, and Egan's comments are a personal nomination — not a studio confirmation. Disney has not publicly attached either actor to the project.
For fans, the appeal is obvious. Holland and Zendaya's on-screen chemistry is already proven across multiple films, and Egan's endorsement gives the idea a thread of legitimacy that fan-casting alone rarely carries. Whether Disney acts on it is a separate question — one that belongs to the executives, the agents, and the deal-makers who turn a red-carpet suggestion into a contract.
What is certain is that the live-action Hercules is in motion, the director is attached, and one of the original film's most recognisable voices has put two of the biggest names in the industry forward. That alone is enough to keep the rumour mill running.
