Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, titled "Override," launches on 20th August across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch — and it is bringing an extraordinary roster of gaming icons along for the ride (IGN, 16 August 2026).

The season's trailer, released by Epic Games on its official YouTube channel on 16th August, sets a clear goal: override the system, take back the Island, and stop a character named Geno. But the storyline is almost secondary to the sheer density of crossover characters on display. Crash Bandicoot, Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails, Joker from Persona 5, Mega Man, and Mortal Kombat's Kitana and Scorpion all appear in the trailer footage (Eurogamer, 17 August 2026).

The season's key art goes even wider. Pac-Man, Street Fighter's Blanka, Shadow the Hedgehog, Kingdom Hearts' Sora, Lara Croft, and Geralt from The Witcher all feature in the promotional artwork — a lineup that spans four decades and nearly as many platform rivalries.

What makes this season stand out, though, is not just the familiar faces. Tucked into both the trailer and the key art is a character from Roblox: the creepy deer from "99 Nights in the Forest," a horror game on the Roblox platform where players survive 99 nights in a secluded forest while being stalked by that very deer. The game was released on Roblox on 4th March 2025 and became one of the platform's most-played titles (Eurogamer, 17 August 2026).

The crossover is noteworthy because Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has previously positioned Roblox as a threat to the games industry, describing it as a centralised platform with a single gatekeeper that commoditises everything and takes more than 70 percent of revenue generated by its users. Roblox attracted 123 million players in its most recent quarter (Eurogamer, 17 August 2026).

For players, the season offers the usual Fortnite mix: a fresh battle pass (a seasonal progression system where players unlock cosmetic rewards by playing), new map changes, and crossover skins available to purchase or earn. For the broader industry, it is another data point in the ongoing blurring of lines between competing platforms — a Roblox character appearing inside Fortnite, the game Epic built to compete with Roblox's dominance in the user-generated content space.

Season 4 picks up the Chapter 7 storyline on 20th August. Players on all supported platforms can jump in at launch.
