Phillies Win the 2026 Field of Dreams Game on Netflix as Baseball Returns to the Iowa Cornfields

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Minnesota Twins 7-1 on Thursday, 13 August 2026, in only the third Major League Baseball game ever played at the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville, Iowa (Yahoo Sports). It was the first MLB game at the site in four years, and the first to be played inside a newly built permanent stadium sitting next to the original baseball field and farmhouse seen in the 1989 film (The Hollywood Reporter).
More than 8,000 fans filed through meticulously arranged cornrows to reach the stadium, and 26 Baseball Hall of Famers were on hand for a pregame ceremony carried live on Netflix (The Hollywood Reporter; MLB.com). The game itself was presented by John Deere and streamed exclusively on Netflix — a centrepiece of a new partnership between MLB and the streaming service (MLB.com). Netflix listed the game as an "Only on Netflix" title and maintains a dedicated watch page for the Phillies-Twins matchup (Netflix Media Centre).
The 1989 film Field of Dreams, directed by Phil Alden Robinson and starring Kevin Costner, turned a piece of Iowa farmland into one of the most recognisable backdrops in American cinema. Producer Larry Gordon, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, recalled how difficult it was to get the film made in the 1980s. The film itself is currently available to stream on Netflix (The Hollywood Reporter).
For one Phillies player, the trip carried personal weight. Derek Hill, an outfielder from Des Moines, attended the game and spoke about what it meant to the state of Iowa (The Hollywood Reporter). Comedian Theo Von was among the VIPs in attendance.
For fans, the night was less about the scoreline and more about the setting — a big-league game played beside a movie diamond cut into a cornfield, with two dozen Hall of Famers watching from the stands. Netflix streaming the game live put it in front of a global audience that a regional sports broadcast would not reach. Whether the partnership brings a fourth Field of Dreams game back to Dyersville has not been announced.
