ESPN Adds Alumni Alt-Cast to MLB Little League Classic With Former Little League World Series Players
ESPN will run an alumni-focused alternate broadcast of the MLB Little League Classic on August 23, 2026, stocked with commentators who once played on the very field the game celebrates.
The telecast, airing on ESPN2, features Mike Monaco on play-by-play with analysts Todd Frazier and Devon Travis — both of whom competed in the Little League Baseball World Series before reaching the majors Variety. An alt-cast, for those unfamiliar, is a second, simultaneous broadcast of the same game with a different commentary team and a different angle — aimed at viewers who want something beyond the standard play-by-play.
The Milwaukee Brewers face the Atlanta Braves at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pa., with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN MLB.com. ESPN's primary broadcast team of Karl Ravech, analyst Eduardo Pérez and reporter Buster Olney will call the game on the main feed Variety.
Two special guests will join the ESPN2 alt-cast: former MLB pitcher Lance Lynn and ESPN hockey analyst Ray Ferraro. Both played in Williamsport during their own youth careers — Lynn in baseball, Ferraro in hockey — giving the broadcast a cross-sport thread of athletes who came through the same town as kids Variety.
Frazier's connection runs deepest. He starred for Toms River East American Little League in New Jersey, helping his team win the 1998 Little League Baseball World Series championship, before an 11-season major-league career Variety. Travis also reached the Little League World Series before his own path to the big leagues.
The Classic sits inside ESPN's broader Little League World Series coverage, which runs from August 19 to August 30. ESPN is the exclusive television home of the tournament Variety. An ESPN film about Little League also debuted on the network on August 12 at 9:30 p.m. ET ESPN PR via Facebook.
Before the game, ESPN.com reporters will ask current major-league players to share the best advice they received during their own Little League days — and the advice they would give kids playing baseball now Variety.
What gives the alt-cast its hook is simple: the people in the booth have stood where the kids in the stands are standing. ESPN has experimented with alternate Little League broadcasts before, running a "kidscast" in 2019 that put teenagers in play-by-play and sideline roles Variety. This year's version swaps teenagers for alumni — players who grew up to reach the highest level of the sport, and who can speak to that journey in real time.
