Star Wars Galactic Racer's Anakin Absence Comes Down to Canon
Anakin Skywalker will not be on the starting grid when Star Wars Galactic Racer launches on October 6, and the reason is simple: he is dead in the game's timeline.
Fuse Games CEO and co-founder Matt Webster told VGC that the game "has to be accurate" to its place in the Star Wars canon. Galactic Racer is set after the original film trilogy — the era of The Force Awakens and beyond — so only characters canonically alive at that point show up in the game's single-player and arcade modes. Anakin Skywalker died in Return of the Jedi, which places him well before the game's starting line.
That commitment to the timeline also rules out recreating the Boonta Eve Classic, the famous podrace from The Phantom Menace. Webster explained that the outcome of that race is already decided in the story — Anakin won it — so there would be nothing for the player to decide.
Asked whether Anakin might appear later, Webster said "who knows," leaving the door open without committing to anything post-launch.
For fans of the franchise, this means the roster draws from a narrower slice of the Star Wars universe than some might expect. No prequel-era Jedi, no Clone Wars generals — just whoever is breathing at the time the game takes place.
Galactic Racer's multiplayer mode takes a different shape from the single-player side. Players compete across a series of heats, upgrading their ships after each race. The mode culminates in a finale where fully upgraded craft face off. Webster described the launch as a moment for the studio and said Fuse Games is keen to bring new content after release.
The game is being developed by Fuse Games in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and launches worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-orders are live now.
Several editions are available. The Deluxe Edition costs US$79.99/£64.99/€79.99 and includes three bonus vehicles — the Kor Sarun: Darc X landspeeder, the Kor Sarun: Ciza T speeder bike, and the Kor Sarun: Rak S skim speeder — along with three deluxe Arcade events, a Deluxe Livery Pack, a Deluxe Player Banner Pack, and a Digital Art Book.
At the top end, the Collector's Edition runs US$159.99/£139.99/€159.99 and is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It includes a physical model of the Kor Sarun: Darc X landspeeder, a physical banner, two pilot patches, a physical copy of the Digital Art Book, and a custom slip cover and steel case.
