Control Resonant Goes Gold — Digital Launch Holds for September, Physical Discs Pushed to October

Remedy Entertainment's Control Resonant has gone gold, the studio announced on August 18, 2026 — meaning main development is complete and the game is ready for manufacturing and distribution. The digital version still arrives on September 24, 2026. The physical disc edition, however, has slipped to October 15.
Remedy revealed the staggered release dates in a Bluesky post, confirming that players who buy digitally get the game on schedule while those who want a disc wait an extra three weeks. The physical delay applies to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PS5 Pro steelbook editions, according to RPG Site. No reason was given for the disc delay beyond manufacturing logistics.
For anyone unfamiliar with the term: "gone gold" is an industry phrase for the moment a game's core build is locked and sent off for production. It does not mean the developers stop working — day-one patches and post-launch support continue — but the version players will install at launch is now finished and approved.
Control Resonant is the sequel to 2019's Control, a supernatural action game set inside a mysterious government agency. This time the protagonist is Dylan Faden, brother of the first game's lead Jesse Faden. Remedy says Dylan wields paranatural abilities — powers that bend the rules of physics — and the studio has confirmed there is no parry mechanic, a defensive countermove common in action games, because it wants players focused on offensive abilities. The story tackles themes of trauma and redemption.
The game launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. PC players can buy it through Steam or the Epic Games Store, and it will also stream on GeForce NOW, Nvidia's cloud gaming service. The base digital edition costs US$60. A digital deluxe edition priced at US$70 grants two-day early access on PS5, letting those players begin on September 22.
What makes this stand out is how routine the split has become. Digital and physical versions of major releases now routinely ship on different dates, with disc editions trailing by weeks while servers and storefronts are ready on time. For Control Resonant, the gap is modest — three weeks — and Remedy's gold announcement signals that the game itself is done. The October date is a manufacturing matter, not a development one.
For fans of the original, the sequel's shift to Dylan Faden opens a different angle on the same world. The first game's story lingered on Jesse's search for answers inside the Federal Bureau of Control; Control Resonant turns to her brother, whose history with the Bureau's paranatural forces was tangled and troubled. Remedy has built its reputation on narrative-driven action games, and the studio appears to be leaning into character-driven storytelling once again.
The digital launch is five weeks away. The disc version lands on October 15, 2026.
