Robin Williams' three children have reactivated his dormant Instagram account, breaking a 12-year silence to push back against AI-generated content using their late father's likeness.
Zak, Zelda and Cody Williams brought the account back online in August 2026, timed around what would have been the actor's 75th year. The profile had sat untouched since 2014 — the year Williams died. In a statement signed by all three children, they wrote: "As we recognize what would be our Dad's 75th year, we're grateful to see new generations discovering his work while longtime fans continue to celebrate the joy he brought into their lives" (Deadline, 19 August 2026). The account's profile now includes links to TikTok, Facebook and YouTube, where the same message was shared.
The children said they want the account to be "a safe, trusted place where the stories, photos, videos, and memories shared reflect his legacy with authenticity, warmth, and care" (Deadline, 19 August 2026). They also added a line about evolving technology: "As technology evolves, we want this to be a safe, trusted place" (Parade, 18 August 2026).
The reactivation comes after years of public frustration from the family over AI-generated material depicting Williams. In 2025, Zelda Williams — now 37 — publicly asked people to stop sending her AI-generated videos of her father. "If you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop," she said at the time (Deadline, 19 August 2026).
She described the AI content — often called "AI slop," meaning low-quality, auto-generated material that floods social platforms — as "gross" and "maddening."
