Zelda Williams tells internet to stop sharing AI videos of Robin Williams

Zelda Williams has told people sharing AI-generated videos of her late father Robin Williams to stop.

She posted the statement on X on Monday, saying a clip being passed around as a supposedly “private video” is clearly artificial, according to Variety. It is not even convincing, she said. The voice in it is robotic and terrible.

She did not soften the language. Just because her father is gone does not make him “your puppet”, she wrote. She told whoever made the clip to leave him out of what she called delusional bullshit. Let him rest, she wrote.

This is not the first time she has raised it. In October 2025, she wrote on Instagram: “Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad”, according to Variety. She has since revived her father’s Instagram account with her brothers, Zak and Cody, to push back against misuse of his voice and likeness, which means the distinctive sound and appearance that identify a performer.

On her X feed, she has also cautioned fans to treat as fake any video that appears to show her father selling an idea or product popularised in the last 12 years, since he has been dead for more than a decade. She wrote there that an AI-built likeness will never be a valid distribution channel or money-making scheme, according to her posts on X.

Robin Williams died in 2014 at age 63, according to Variety. Weeks later, Zelda, then 25, spoke about online abuse she received after posting a tribute to him that closed with the words, “I love you. I miss you. I’ll try to keep looking up”, according to the BBC. She quit Twitter over the harassment after his death, according to Reuters, before later returning to the platform, according to the BBC.

For anyone scrolling past one of these clips, her test is simple. If Robin Williams appears to be pitching something new, check the date. He has not been alive to record anything for more than a decade.
