Taylor Sheridan Kills the 6666 Yellowstone Spinoff: "There's Never Going to Be One"
Taylor Sheridan has closed the gate on the long-discussed 6666 Yellowstone spinoff. "There's never going to be one," the creator said on the Rodeo Time podcast, hosted by YouTuber Dale Brisby Deadline, 19 August 2026.
Paramount first announced the spinoff at its Upfront presentation in 2022 — the annual event where networks pitch advertisers on upcoming programming. The plan was to set the show in the era when Comanches still ruled West Texas, with executive producers including Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari. 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios were attached to produce. But neither Sheridan nor Paramount ever confirmed a production date or a cast Collider, 13 July 2026.
The reason Sheridan gave for scrapping the project is personal. Along with a group of investors, he purchased the real 6666 Ranch in 2020 — a working cattle operation in Texas. He told Brisby he would never fictionalise it, because doing so would trivialise a place where real people work and raise their families Deadline, 19 August 2026.
Fans of the main Yellowstone series will remember the ranch as the place Jefferson White's character, Jimmy Hurdstrom, was sent in Season 4. That storyline seeded the idea that a separate show could take root there. Sheridan himself discussed the possibility in a lengthy 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, though even then no timeline was firm Collider, 13 July 2026.
Yellowstone director Christina Voros noted earlier this year that working with Sheridan can involve long pauses between projects — a pace that left 6666 in limbo well before this week's definitive statement Yahoo Entertainment, 7 July 2026.
The Yellowstone universe is far from dormant, though. Other spinoffs already include 1883 (2021), 1923 (2022), Marshals (earlier this year), and the Texas-set Dutton Ranch Deadline, 19 August 2026.
For fans, the loss of 6666 means one fewer door into the Dutton world — but the corridor has plenty left. What stands out is the reason: a writer who bought a real ranch and decided that the people living and working on it were not material to invent around.
