FX Orders 'Sons of Anarchy' Spinoff 'Legends,' Reuniting the Original Cast — Without Kurt Sutter
FX has ordered a limited series called Legends, a spinoff of Sons of Anarchy that brings the original cast back together in what The Hollywood Reporter describes as a "wildly original meta-thriller" The Hollywood Reporter. Charlie Hunnam, who played Jax Teller across all seven seasons of the original motorcycle drama, developed the project with Jonathan Groff The Hollywood Reporter. Variety confirmed the order on 19 August 2026, reporting that the series will bring much of the main cast back together Variety.
The cast list reads like a roll call of the show's core ensemble. Hunnam is joined by Kim Coates, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan and Theo Rossi The Hollywood Reporter. Sons of Anarchy ran on FX from 2008 to 2014, following the lives of a close-knit motorcycle club in California.
What makes Legends stand out is who is not in the writer's chair. Kurt Sutter, who created the original series, is not involved — and says he should not be. He shared the message in a video posted from a sauna, shirtless and wearing a yellow beanie — a delivery style very much in character for the outspoken showrunner.
Sutter's wife, Katey Sagal, starred in the original series as Gemma Teller Morrow and is part of the Legends cast The Hollywood Reporter. This is not the first time the Sons of Anarchy universe has expanded. FX previously handed a 10-episode series order to Mayans MC, Sutter's follow-up centred on the rival Mayans Motorcycle Club, which launched in 2018 The Hollywood Reporter.
