FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki says the studio is keen to return to single-player games once The Duskbloods is behind it.

Speaking to IGN after a hands-on preview of the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, Miyazaki was asked about the fact that two of FromSoftware's recent projects — Elden Ring: Nightreign and The Duskbloods — are both multiplayer titles. He called that a coincidence. And he made clear where his head is.

"It's just a coincidence," Miyazaki told IGN, before adding that the longer one works on a multiplayer game, the more it makes him want to make something single-player again. He said the studio still has a heavy focus on single-player content, and referenced FromSoftware's "unannounced games" as cause for optimism — a nod he first made in June this year, as GameReactor reported at the time.

For context: FromSoftware, the Japanese studio behind the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne and Elden Ring, built its reputation on single-player action role-playing games — sprawling, difficult adventures where one player faces down monsters and bosses alone. Its last major single-player release was Elden Ring in 2022. Since then, the studio has shifted attention toward multiplayer: Elden Ring: Nightreign, a co-op spin-off directed by Junya Ishizaki, and now The Duskbloods, a PvPvE game — meaning players fight both each other and computer-controlled enemies in the same match.

Miyazaki also directs The Duskbloods himself. He described it as an outlet for ideas that "didn't really fit in the context of a single-player game." The project was made in partnership with Nintendo, whom Miyazaki said was "very excited and very receptive to the idea." It is a Switch 2 exclusive.

The timing of these comments is notable. The Duskbloods enters its network test — a large-scale online stress test before launch — in five daily phases running from 21st to 24th August, according to Eurogamer. Nintendo also published a Creator's Voice blog interview with Miyazaki on 17 August 2026, adding to the promotional run.

So the studio's most prominent director is out promoting a multiplayer game while telling players he is eager to get back to the solo experiences that made FromSoftware's name. Miyazaki did not name a specific project or give a timeline. But for fans who have waited four years since Elden Ring for a new single-player adventure, the signal is that one is coming — even if the details are not.
