PlatinumGames still wants more Bayonetta.

Chief executive Atsushi Inaba said the Osaka studio has a strong desire to further develop the character and expand her world. The comments were reported on 4 October 2026, based on a Famitsu interview. Video Games Chronicle

Inaba spoke alongside Shift Up's Hyung-tae Kim. The pair were promoting a Bayonetta collaboration for Stellar Blade on Nintendo Switch 2. No new Bayonetta game was announced.

That context matters. PlatinumGames does not own Bayonetta. The intellectual property, the legal rights to the character and series, is split between Sega and Nintendo. Its sequels were released as exclusives for Wii U and Nintendo Switch, meaning they could only be played on those consoles.

The series has been quiet for three years. The most recent release was Origins, a spin-off, a smaller side story set apart from the main games, in 2023. PlatinumGames has not released a Bayonetta series game since the departure of lead developers including series creator Hideki Kamiya. Kamiya left the studio and formed a new team to make Okami 2.

PlatinumGames has kept busy elsewhere. Since those departures around 2023, it released Ninja Gaiden 4 and contributed development support to Final Fantasy XVI, eFootball and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It is also working with Paramount on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, The Last Ronin.

It has yet to release a game for Nintendo Switch 2. Inaba described the console as having tremendous potential.

For fans, this means interest rather than a plan. There is no date, no platform and no development team confirmed. But the studio that built its name on fast, stylish action games is saying publicly that it wants the witch back.
