Ron Perlman Joins Amazon MGM Horror Film 'Seasons' Opposite Lily James and Jack Reynor
Ron Perlman has signed on to appear in Seasons, Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming horror film starring Lily James and Jack Reynor, according to Deadline.
The film is the second feature from writer-director Drew Hancock, whose debut Companion opened earlier this year. Perlman will play a neighbour who knows little about the dark rituals embedded in the land, The Hollywood Reporter revealed — a detail that makes him one of the few characters stumbling into the horror rather than steering it. James and Reynor play a husband and wife who buy their dream ranch, only to discover the land is alive with ancient spirits. Survival means submitting to increasingly disturbing rituals as each season turns.
The screenplay is based on a viral horror short story by Matt and Harrison Query, which first appeared on Reddit before being adapted into a full-length novel. The Query brothers have become a familiar pipeline for screen adaptations of online fiction — a path that gives studios pre-existing audience awareness before a frame is shot.
Production is scheduled to begin in September in Ireland, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The producing team behind Seasons reads like a roll call of the modern horror establishment. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine produce through their 21 Laps banner (the company behind Stranger Things). James Wan and Michael Clear produce through Blumhouse Atomic Monster — the combined horror label formed when Jason Blum's Blumhouse merged with Wan's Atomic Monster in 2023. Scott Glassgold and Dan Cohen produce through 12:01 Films. Judson Scott executive produces for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing for the company, Deadline reported.
Perlman has been a constant presence across streaming and premium television. He currently stars alongside Javier Bardem in Apple TV+'s Cape Fear, executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Recent credits include Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Fallout and Poker Face. He is set to recur in Season 3 of Prime Video's Cross as Herschel Zamora, a ruthless vigilante hunting someone, Deadline reported in June. Last October, Perlman also launched Asylm Studios, a new film, TV and new media venture.
For Seasons, his casting adds a performer whose granite features and rumbling delivery have made him a horror and genre staple for four decades — from Hellboy to Pacific Rim to his recent string of streaming roles. Character details beyond the neighbour role remain under wraps.
