Elizabeth McGovern Joins Amazon MGM Horror Film 'Seasons'
Elizabeth McGovern has closed a deal to join the cast of "Seasons," an upcoming horror film from Amazon MGM Studios, according to Deadline.
The project already has a strong ensemble lined up. Lily James, Jack Reynor and Ron Perlman are set to star alongside McGovern in the film, which is directed by Drew Hancock from his own screenplay. Hancock is coming off "Companion," his feature debut; "Seasons" will be his second film as director.
The story follows a husband and wife who buy their dream ranch, only to discover the land is alive with ancient spirits. Survival demands they submit to increasingly disturbing rituals with each turn of the season. Hancock's script is based on a viral horror short story by Matt and Harrison Query that first appeared on Reddit before being adapted into a full-length novel.
The producing team reads like a who's-who of contemporary horror. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine produce through 21 Laps, James Wan and Michael Clear through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and Scott Glassgold and Dan Cohen through 12:01 Films. Judson Scott is executive producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing for the company.
For McGovern, the role marks a notable shift into genre territory. She is best known for playing Lady Cora Crawley in the ITV drama "Downton Abbey" and its two feature follow-ups, released in 2019 and 2025. Her career reaches back further: she earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for her role in "Ragtime," the 1981 historical drama directed by Miloš Forman.
The Query brothers have become a recognisable name in the space where internet-native fiction meets studio filmmaking. Their Reddit-originated stories have drawn repeated interest from major buyers, and "Seasons" represents another example of a platform-born short story working its way through adaptation into a full studio production.
No release date for "Seasons" has been announced. Amazon MGM Studios has not yet indicated whether the film will receive a theatrical run or debut directly on Prime Video.
