Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on course to top the North American box office for a fourth straight weekend, with around $35 million projected for the August 21–23 frame, according to Deadline. The Sony release finished its third week with $100.1 million at 4,539 theatres, pushing its domestic cume — domestic being the United States and Canada — to $815.9 million. That third-week figure surpassed Avengers: Endgame's $80.9 million for the same stage, though it trailed Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $118.4 million.

The weekend's widest new arrival, Insidious: Out of the Further, collected $3 million in Thursday previews that began at 2 p.m., per Deadline. Sony and Blumhouse are projecting a $23 million–$27 million opening across 3,303 locations. The horror spinoff, produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster and written and directed by Jacob Chase, follows a young mother named Gemma who discovers she can travel into a dark spirit realm called The Further and bring what lives there back into the real world. Lin Shaye, the franchise's longest-running cast member, is the only core series actor involved.

The numbers land below the most recent Insidious entry. Red Door earned $5 million in previews and posted a $33 million opening in July 2023. Out of the Further did score better with critics — 58% on Rotten Tomatoes versus Red Door's 40% — though the original 2010 Insidious still holds the franchise's best mark at 60% fresh. Sony Pictures puts the franchise's cumulative global gross at over $740 million.

Lionsgate's Mutiny, an R-rated action film starring Jason Statham and directed by Jean-François Richet (Plane), took $700,000 in previews starting at 5 p.m. It is tracking toward a single-digit-million opening at 2,703 theatres. Reviews sit at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. Statham's previous film, Shelter, opened to $5.5 million domestically, reached $12.8 million domestically, and grossed $54.5 million worldwide.

Two further wide releases round out the frame. Vertical's The Magic Faraway Tree opened at 1,611 theatres and Black Bear's Spa Weekend at 2,009, both projected in the low single digits.

The prior week's top five, all per Deadline: Spider-Man: Brand New Day ($100.1 million, week 3, $815.9 million total), The Odyssey ($38 million, week 5, $519.5 million total), The End of Oak Street ($28.9 million, week 1), Paw Patrol: Dino Movie ($26.2 million, week 1), and Six: The Musical Live ($4.1 million, week 1).

What gives the frame its shape is the gap between Sony's two releases. Brand New Day keeps pulling blockbuster numbers in its fourth week; Out of the Further is a horror spinoff working from a narrower fanbase, opening softer than the last instalment and relying on the genre's traditionally strong legs — low budgets, durable audience interest through September — to close the distance. Thursday preview figures are studio estimates; final weekend numbers arrive with Monday actuals.
