BigXthaPlug Arrested in Texas on Drug and Weapons Charges, Forcing Country Festival Cancellation
Rapper BigXthaPlug was arrested in Texas on Friday, 21 August, on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a firearm — exactly one year after a previous arrest on similar charges in the state.
The Allen Police Department took the 28-year-old Dallas native, whose real name is Xavier Landum, into custody and booked him into Collin County Jail, according to Billboard. CBS News reported that during the earlier August 2025 arrest, Dallas police said officers pulled over a pickup truck during a traffic stop (CBS News).
Landum was out on bail from that prior arrest — a North Texas stop on 21 August 2025, also for marijuana and weapon possession charges — when Friday's arrest took place. He had been arrested once before as well: in February 2025, on a marijuana possession charge in Arlington, Texas (Billboard).
The timing had an immediate professional consequence. BigXthaPlug was scheduled to perform that same Friday evening at the Country Rising Festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The festival announced on Friday afternoon that he would miss the appearance, citing a "personal emergency," as Whiskey Riff reported. BigXthaPlug's career has been on a steep upward curve, making the legal trouble difficult to separate from the touring calendar. He earned his first No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart with "All the Way," a collaboration with Bailey Zimmerman — a country artist himself, which made the pairing a cross-genre moment that sat comfortably on both rap and country charts. His album I Hope You're Happy debuted in the top two on both the Top Rap Albums and Top Country Albums charts, an unusual feat that placed him in two Billboard rankings at once (Billboard).
That chart presence is also what made the Country Rising booking make sense: a rap artist with a genuine foothold in country audiences, booked onto a country festival in Canada. The cancellation left festival-goers without a scheduled performer and left questions about how Landum's legal situation will affect upcoming dates.
